The Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine Department is using the latest technology in order to treat even the most difficult cases.

Particularly, the Depatment has:

• Lokostation
  A system for controlled and mechanically-assisted gait re-education. It is extremely safe and simulates human walking with the help of a computer, offering training and re-education. It has been designed to rehabilitate patients who have suffered strokes, spinal diseases, traumatic spinal cord injuries and traumatic brain injuries.
• Posturography 
  A computerized dynamic balancing platform, capable of assessing patients and offering postural re-education. It is used for patients suffering from neurological diseases, as well as any other patient with unsteady gait.
• High Intensity Laser Therapy (HILT) 
  Innovative therapeutic technique for musculoskeletal disorders with the HIRO High Intensity Laser Therapy (HILT) device by ASA. The device has a high energy peak of 3 kW and operates using special treatment protocols, offering amazing results.

  The HILT device is unique, as it treats all inflammatory musculoskeletal disorders, even those located deep inside the skin, offering significant pain relief and mobility restoration from the very first application. The results may last from 4 to 72 hours, while absolute pain relief and mobility may be achieved after a few sessions.

• Shockwave 
  A modern device that emits shockwaves (extracorporeal shockwave therapy) with high accuracy for localized treatment, such as muscle calcifications (e.g. supraspinatus muscle), tendonitis, jogger’s heel, trigger points and plantar fasciitis.
• Pedobarography
  Pedobarography or ambulatory gait analysis (static and dynamic) is performed using a diagnostic medical device that operates with radiation or radioactivity. The device is made up of thousands of sensors, which record and analyze the gait in 2D and 3D images. 
• Electrotherapy
  Electrotherapy is based on natural methods, whereby electrical energy is used as a medical treatment. 
• Diathermy
  Diathermy is a treatment method that aims to heat deep tissue via a configuration that emits high-frequency electric current and electromagnetic energy, which are then converted into heat inside the body. 
• Ultrasound
  Ultrasonic waves are sound vibrations with a frequency greater than 20kHz. Ultrasounds are applied from 3 to 10 minutes.
• Thermotherapy
  Thermotherapy or heat therapy is a form of heat applied to surface areas. The temperature of Η2Ο in the hot packs is approximately 76.6oC. The session lasts 10-15 minutes.
• Cryotherapy
  Cryotherapy is the application of low temperatures locally. It is usually applied with ice packs. The session lasts 5-10 minutes, depending on each individual case.
• Whirlpool
  Whirlpools are a hydrotherapy method that uses superficial heat and the whirlpool for treatment purposes. It is used as preparation before kinesiotherapy.
