Volunteer Initiatives

  • Volunteer Initiatives

Our medical, nursing administrative staff participate in the initiatives of the Group voluntarily.

Over the last 4 years, our Hospital employees have been collecting clothing and footwear items, linen, toys and books in good conditions, which they then distribute to various organizations and bodies, such as: municipal social services, the Elliniko Metropolitan Social Clinic, the City of Athens Homeless Shelter, the Asylum for the Interminably Ill, the Holy Temple of Ypapanti in Marousi, etc.

For a number of years, the HYGEIA Group hospitals have been supporting the blood drive actions, with their physicians and employees actively participating in the initiatives organized each year.
In addition, the HYGEIA Group hospitals have each established their own Blood Bank – HYGEIA at Sotiria Hospital, MITERA at Ippokrateio Hospital and LETO at Laiko Hospital – both to serve the needs of their staff and their families, and to support volunteerism and assist our fellow citizens. There is also cooperation between HYGEIA Hospital Tirana (HHT) and the National Blood Bank of Albania.

Firmly believing that helping a child is like opening a window to the future, in 2016, the HYGEIA Group employees supported ArGOODaki, Goody’s fast food chain social welfare initiative, which aspired to meet the educational needs of the children living in the remote Greek islands of Tilos and Chalki. Many Group employees actively contributed to this trip, by donating educational and literary books to enrich the municipal and school libraries.

In 2015, the HYGEIA Hospital Employee Union donated food valued at €1,000 to the Kefalonia Charitable Fund, which assists vulnerable social groups.

The HYGEIA Group employees showed their active support by participating in the Greece Race for the Cure 5k run and 2k walk, organized by the Greek Association of Women with Breast Cancer "Alma Zois” on Sunday September 27 2015. A total of 80 employees from HYGEIA, MITERA and LETO hospitals found themselves at the starting line at Zappeio and participated in this initiative, which aimed to raise awareness and promote early diagnosis of breast cancer. The Greece Race for the Cure is the largest global awareness initiative for breast cancer.

On Sunday May 19, 2013, we participated in the Corporate Relay Run, the first charitable racing event in tune with the corporate spirit, to support the Together for Children Union.

A total of 4 HYGEIA and MITERA employee teams participated in the event, winning various individual distinctions and being ranked 50th out of 172 teams in the mixed event. However, the greatest distinction was the smile of the more than 10,000 children in need, since the money raised was donated to the Together for Children Union.

The HYGEIA Group employees organized a festive event in December 2012 to demonstrate their support and solidarity for the vulnerable social groups of the Municipality of Perama. Some 140 HYGEIA Group volunteers transformed the cold and uninviting conference room of the Town Hall into a festive and warm room for celebrations! They welcomed more than 500 people and offered them their love and a wide assortment of food and desserts they had prepared themselves. The children were entertained by a party entertainment team that had been hired by the Group. After the event, the municipal employees asked the Management if they could keep the Christmas decorations, which were naturally donated to them. The employees also distributed presents to the children, as well as milk cartons, juice boxes and tubs of yogurt, kindly donated by Vivartia, a member of MIG.

The HYGEIA Employee Union, Hippocrates, bought clothing, which was then distributed to the patients hosted at the Asylum for the Interminably Ill. 2013

On February 16 & 17, 2012, a team of HYGEIA volunteers gathered at the 1st floor of HYGEIA Hospital with their children. The aim of the meeting was for them to bring to life the walls of the offices where the Technical Support staff work tirelessly every day. So young and old picked up their paint brushes and spirits and set out to bring the walls to life, covering them with bright colors, mountains and oceans, flowers and cheerful messages. In no time at all, the volunteers managed to transform the offices into a pleasant environment, giving the employees yet another reason for inspiration and creativity, and filling them with warm emotions!

In October 2011, the HYGEIA Group employees actively participated in Marfin Foundation’s “Come & assist in combating hunger” campaign, collecting food (long-life packaged goods), which was then distributed by the Foundation to NGOs, homeless shelters and vulnerable social groups.

In 2011, the Group employees generously donated clothing, toys, books, items for the home, electronics, electric appliances and furniture. The items were distributed to associations for the disabled, orphanages, schools and various NGOs through the Marfin Foundation.

On Sunday September 25, 2011, the HYGEIA employees participated in the symbolic Memory Walk from Syntagma Square to Zappeio Mansion, which formed part of the events organized by the Athens Association of Alzheimer’s Disease & Related Disorders for the World Alzheimer's Day. The march was accompanied by the City of Athens Philharmonic Orchestra. An event dedicated to the prevention and early diagnosis of the disease was organized at Zappeio Mansion from 11:00 to 18:00.

In 2009, the staff of Marfin Egnatia Bank, in association with the Marfin Foundation and the Marfin Investment Group companies (with HYGEIA Group as one of its members), continued their volunteer work by raising money for children in need. A Fundraiser for Children was launched on December 11, 2009 honoring the International Day for Children and hosting events and activities dedicated to the day, which culminated with a Staff Bazaar on Sunday December 13, 2009. More than 600 Group volunteers participated in the Bazaar, either by assisting in the preparation or by selling goods. Along with the 3000 plus visitors, mostly made up of Group staff and their families, they managed to successfully raise €64,495.17 in just a few hours, actively contributing to the aims of the Fundraiser.

More than €640,000 were raised in 2008 with the active participation of the staff and all the people who offered their support to the Fundraiser for Children. The money was distributed to various institutions and individual families by the Marfin Foundation.3
