CLASS COURSES 2018 / Colorectal Laparoscopic Surgical Skills The first round of Laparoscopic Colectomy seminars with live broadcast of a surgery at the N. Louros Conference Center.

HYGEIA Hospital’s 6th Surgery Clinic organizes every year, regular CLASS (Colorectal Laparoscopic Surgical Skills) Seminars. Upon conclusion of their clinical training on Laparoscopic Colectomy, participating surgeons will be able:

  • To distinguish the parameters that optimize the results of procedures performed on the colon and rectum.
  • To evaluate new minimally invasive procedures on the large bowel.
  • To find out all the latest developments in colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and acute diverticulitis.
  • In addition, they will gain adequate experience so as:
  • To perform laparoscopic colectomies.
  • To evaluate their acquired skills through simulators.

Four rounds of seminar are carried out, each lasting two days. On the first day, participants attend talks at the N. Louros Conference Center, located within MITERA Hospital, while they also watch live broadcasts of surgeries performed at the HYGEIA Hospital operating rooms. Hands-on practice on live subjects is performed in the experimental operating room housed at the Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens (BRFAA).

By attending the lectures, participants will have the chance to gain proven, evidence-based knowledge on the diagnosis and treatment of the medical conditions encountered in colorectal surgery.

During the seminar:

  • Experts give talks on how to optimize the treatment results.
  • Tapes of all types of laparocsopic procedures are screened, with extremely detailed analysis and recommendations on how they may be easily performed.
  • Live laparoscopic colorectal procedures are performed.
  • Private classes are taught on latest generation simulators.
  • Trainees perform colorcetal procedures on live subjects at the BRFAA.

All rounds include a private 4-hour class on simulators and live broadcasts of laparoscopic colectomies.

CME Credits
Upon conclusion of the clinical training on laparoscopic colectomies, participants will receive continuing medical education (CME) credits from the Greek Medical Association, on behalf of the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME), which are equivalent to those awarded by medical associations in other EU member-states.
