Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH) is a type of hydrocephalus that affects older people. Those patients have got walking difficulties, incontinence and dementia.
It is believed that up to 6% – 10% of the elderly demented people, they have Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus, which is a treatable disease.
Hygeia Hospital provides CSF dynamics studies by LIKVOR CELDA® SYSTEM, which is a sophisticated medical device that measures the dynamics of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) system and cerebrospinal fluid shunt function in a precise and safe way.
Procedure
Patient lies down on specific designed bed and two spinal needles are placed in the lower back of the spine under aseptic technique and local anesthetic. Those needles are connected with the device, which performs the study in automatic and standardized way. Afterwards, patient moves to his/her room for clinical reassessment.
Before the study, patient must provide a recent MR/CT scan of his/her brain and the medication that he/she is on.
