Department of Functional and Reconstructive Nose Surgery

΅We treat cases in which the shape of the nose and the possible deformities cause respiratory problems.

Functional and Reconstructive Nose Surgery

• Nasal valve insufficiency
The insufficiency of the lateral nasal walls (nasal valves) is diagnosed when these walls retreat during inhalation.  Research shows that this condition is observed at a rate of >50% of the patients who have problems of nasal respiration or snoring and apnea syndrome.
The treatment of the insufficiency in this area is surgical and it includes a plethora of techniques and the use of grafts which are designed individually per case.
• Crooked- deviated nose
It constitutes both an aesthetic and a functional problem.  The crooked deviated noses are often the result of an injury and they encase a very crooked septum too.  The reconstruction usually takes open surgical access for a complete alignment of the crooked deviated nose to be achieved.
• Downward top
The downward top constitutes a problem of different origins, such as by birth, post-injury or, very often, medical due to a previous operation in the nasal septum.  The nose, when it seriously down slopes, does not breathe correctly.  Someone getting older and the aging of the tissues cause additional fall of the nose and especially of its top.  The reconstruction involves quite large pieces of cartilage at the front section which will be taken from another place of the nasal septum.  If adequate septum graft cannot be found, aural or rib cartilage grafts can be used. These grafts are placed as an extension of the existing septum and only then are the fall and the bad slope of the nose restored.
• Reconstructive Rhinoplasty – Reconstruction of nasal septum
The philosophy and the techniques of reconstructive rhinoplasty have, in the last few years, made remarkable progress which leads to excellent postsurgical results, a perfect, natural-looking nose that has nothing to do with its past. The technique of fine stitching for the connection of the grafts, the grafts themselves that function supportively and with absolute aesthetic form and which no longer are placed as “patches”, have perfected a lot the aesthetic results of the reconstruction.
In this way, the specialized surgeon can safely solve the postsurgical, medical or oncological problems and the small or large deformities of the nose. Doctors can promise more and make those patients who have undergone multiple aimless operations more optimistic.  Although reconstructive nose surgery is delicate and time consuming, it is totally painless and is followed by a short hospitalization period for the patient.
