04 November 2020

The academic partnership between HYGEIA and the European University Cyprus (EUC) has been sealed with the commencement of the clinical training of the first ever students from the School of Medicine. Their training will be concluded in December 2020.

The training program runs for four months and has been designed to accommodate students in their 4th, 5th and 6th year at the School of Medicine. They will receive theoretical and hand-on training on actual patient cases, work with HYGEIA doctors and come into contact with latest generation medical technology (such as the da Vinci Xi and MAKO robotic systems, the hybrid operating room, gamma knife, PET/CT etc.). On a daily basis, students will work as associate physicians, getting acquainted with the demanding requirements of a hospital such as HYGEIA, which has been accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI) since 2010 for its quality services and patient safety standards.

The clinical training of students with include the specialties of Internal Medicine, Pulmonology, Hematology, Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Rheumatology, Neurology. Psychiatry, General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Gynecology, Orthopedics and Neurosurgery.

On his part, the CEO of HYGEIAMr. Andreas Kartapanis, noted, “For HYGEIA and its scientific staff, academic and research activities are not something new. Research protocols have been used for years, while there are also postgraduate studies in general surgery and cardiac imaging, as well as a postgraduate course in internal medicine and surgical specialties for medical school graduates before they commence their specialty. The presence of the students at the Hospital does not just establish HYGEIA as a leading healthcare provider, accredited by JCI, but also as a pioneer in medical training.”

The academic partnership between HYGEIA and the European University Cyprus School of Medicine will run for 10 years and will contribute in educating and training medicine students, exchanging know-how on clinical practice and education, promoting common-interest activities, and launching academic and educational initiatives in the field of Medicine.
