5th International Athens Shoulder Course 2022

05 May 2022

The global shoulder orthopedic surgery conference is returning to Athens on 4-7 May

The 5th consecutive International Athens Shoulder Course (ACS) will focus on the latest and most innovative developments in shoulder surgery. The ACS is hosted by the HYGEIA Hospital 3rd Orthopedic Clinic, in partnership with the Italian (SIAGASCOT) and French (SFA) arthroscopic societies, in Athens on 4-7 May 2022.

One of the largest and most successful medical conferences across Europe is returning, with more than 100 Greek and foreign speakers and trainers, among the leading orthopedic surgeons specializing in conditions of the shoulder worldwide, aiming to update and provide global and comprehensive training to orthopedic specialists on all the modern surgical methods.

Participants will have the chance to attend unique speeches and listen to interesting views from some of the most experienced shoulder surgeons on the latest topics and techniques. They may also attend the Mini Battles and Debates on different ways to treat the same conditions. The ACS will also include broadcasts of recorded surgical procedures and presentation of innovative methods by the speakers on difficulties encountered and how to quickly address them. The educational experience of the ACS will be complemented by hands-on cadaver practice on the most modern shoulder arthroscopy and open surgery techniques, using specific methods that each participant will choose when registering.

The theoretical part of the conference will be held at the Athens Concert Hall. This year, HYGEIA is offering for the first time the option of hybrid attendance through BeeMed, the revolutionary international medical training platform.

In addition, the Special Physio Workshop will take place for the 3rd year running, as part of this year’s ACS, with international attendance. It is addressed to physiotherapists and aims to provide a global overview of various conditions and present surgical rehabilitation methods. This year’s Workshop, along with the hands-on part of the ACS, will be held at the HEAL Academy, one of the most modern surgical training centers in Europe, on 4 May.

As noted by the Chairman of the ACS, Mr Emmanouil Antonogiannakis, Orthopedic Specialist and Director of the HYGEIA Hospital 3rd Orthopedic Clinic, “To promote orthopedic science and the art of surgery, you ought to exchange views with your colleagues, share your experience, seek the best solutions for your patients’ problems and transfer your knowledge to the younger colleagues, so they may apply the most modern practices effectively. We are extremely fortunate to have all these distinguished scientists visit Greece, at a time when the field of Orthopedics is changing at lightning speed due to its interaction with the advancements in technology.”

On his part, the Chairman of the ASC Organizing and Scientific Committee, Mr Emmanouil Brilakis, Orthopedic Specialist and Associate Director of the HYGEIA Hospital 3rd Orthopedic Clinic, stated, “This year we are attempting to host experienced orthopedic specialists from around the globe in Greece, so they may share their knowledge, experience and concerns. Our aim is to continue to establish a common code with our physiotherapists, by explaining to them the innovative surgical techniques and by learning from them the latest developments in rehabilitation. This year, following the pandemic, our efforts are harder, but the need is even more imperative.
